BIOGRAPHY

Yang Bing has been integral to defining Beijing’s
underground music and dance scene, and is famous with
the city’s clubbers for his fat bass, funky tech-house style.
A native of Beijing, Yang Bing began DJing in 1995 – back
then the city had no clubs playing electronic music, and pop
and commercial music dominated the scene. Yang Bing
started out in one of these commercial music clubs, which
was the only way a DJ could get a start in those days. But
his own tastes were tech-house and he was interested in the
rave scene. By 1997 he could no longer face playing in the
commercial clubs, so he broke out on his own, promoting
and playing at the first underground rave parties in Beijing
bars with a group of like-minded friends. Crowds were small
to begin with, but after three years of hard work Yang Bing
and his friends were running the best nights in Beijing. At
the same time, Yang Bing was honing his performance skills
and establishing an audience for his tech-house style. In
